Underwater Digital Cameras 101 For Landlubbers


First came the camera. Then there was the underwater camera. After that came the digital camera ? and now we have underwater digital cameras. Underwater digital cameras are ideal for capturing the beauty of the undersea world (or the bottom of your swimming pool if you have that special artistic eye!). They are used by both scientists and scuba divers. Digital cameras come in many well-known brands including Kodak, Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Olympus. Surprisingly enough, the cheapest brands cost less than $200, although prices rise quite steeply for the highest quality cameras.

Some of the advantages of underwater digital cameras include:

- You can plug them into a TV.

For the reviewers that rated this DVD poorly because it didn't contain the advanced information they were looking for, check out the title of the DVD... Here's a hint: The first word in the title is INTRODUCTION.



For anyone new to the Canon EOS 5D, this DVD is a great (not perfect) introduction. I've been shooting 35mm film with SLR's for 20+ years, but switching to the 5D was a whole new world when it came to operating the camera. This DVD eased the transition to digital (and the 5D in particular). I return to this DVD for a quick review every couple of months.



The material is presented clearly and in a organized way. A methodology for capturing consistent images is presented and, although certainly not the only method, it is at least a starting point. The Canon flashes have a short section on this DVD too.



I found this DVD useful and informative and consequently I plan to buy Blue Crane Digital's Introduction to the Canon Rebel XTi, and Introduction to the Canon Speedlight 580 EX II.



Oh, for the reviewer that said you can find the same information in the 5D manual - maybe you can point out the section in the manual that talks about depth of field, or basics of composition. I must have missed those sections. ;-)



Customer Review: What is this, QVC?

You know that point in your past where you might have stayed awake longer than usual, maybe late night television was on and all of a sudden you hit infomercial hour; suddenly, you have some pleasant person trying to sell you on their product, or make you feel like they're the ultimate source on information on the item they're attempting to sell you, meanwhile never exhibiting any real knowledge on the product; think, for instance, QVC. Now relate this to your newly acquired and or possibly yet to be purchased Canon 5D. That's the best way to describe this item, in my opinion, it feels extremely low budget (which isn't a big deal if it actually serves its purpose) and more so covers functions of the camera vaguely, giving hints at the more advanced aspects of using the camera but never actually comes full circle to make use of showing you how to make use of what the camera can do, and or giving you the actual information I'm sure a lot of you would want out of paying for an item like this. They give you one final measure of assurance at the end by saying something along the lines of suggesting you watch the DVD again if you needed to remember how to do anything you were just shown. Honestly, by the time the DVD was over I was expecting it to finally get to the point where it might start to convey items of real interest or more advanced techniques to use with this camera. While to someone new to photography, digital photography and or using cameras in general this might be a great starting point, considering the current price point (and previous) for this model camera, I think they severely underestimated their client base when structuring, planning and executing the delivery and knowledge found on this disc. For anyone with a general idea of how to use their camera looking to take their skills to the next level, I would personally suggest investing your money elsewhere.

Customer Review: Beyond the (Measley) User's Guides

This DVD was just what I needed to fully understand the capabilities of my digital camera. As they say right in the video, the user's guides that come with the camera are comparable to the owner's manual for your car; they give a lot of information about the car, but don't teach you how to drive. This video picks up where the user's guides leave off.

Not only do they explain all of the settings, how to adjust them & what they're used for, but they also give good general photography tips (i.e.; composition & the "law of thirds.") They also get into photo & movie editing (I'd recently given up on the latter, but now I "get it.") Although I had a vague notion that my camera was probably capable of a lot, now I fully understand those capabilities & have the knowledge required to use them to the fullest.

I highly recommend this video to anyone "new" to these types of Canon cameras.

Rush Hamden has put together a unique comprehensive DVD filmmaker's

tutorial. As a reference point, I've been a copywriter for major ad

agencies and am now a developing filmmaker/screenwriter. Rush's DVD

series is incredibly organized with attention to detail and ego

removed. It's obvious a lot of time has been put into the production of

this series. He has filled in several gaps of my guerrilla style of

film school education. I hope he gets rich off these videos because he

deserves it. He has helped accelerate my film production learning at

This item is a great idea, however it does not install on windows
xp professional, even though the intel faq says it does. The intel customer support says that there are major problmes with the mouse, keyboard and gamepad (they only list the minor problems on there compatibility faq)), they dont bother to tell you that they do not work at all on many peoples xp professional

However if you have 98,me,xp home, or 2000 professional(wow 2000 pro and not xp pro) then buy this product, it is an awesome gamepad and can function as a mouse that doesnt even need a surface to use.

This game pad is not only beautiful to look at and hold but is very functional as well. The mouse function is perfect for playing 3D video games such as American Mcgee's Alice and Clive Barkers Undying. It can be programmed to be both a mouse and a keyboard at the same time! The response rate is fantastic and the wireless freedom is outstanding! This pad is very durable and should last for years as long as you don't abuse it to badly.

The intel customer support says that there are major problmes with the mouse, keyboard and gamepad (they only list the minor problems on there compatibility faq)), they dont bother to tell you that they do not work at all on many peoples xp professional

However if you have 98,me,xp home, or 2000 professional(wow 2000 pro and not xp pro) then buy this product, it is an awesome gamepad and can function as a mouse that doesnt even need a surface to use.

This game pad is not only beautiful to look at and hold but is very functional as well. The mouse function is perfect for playing 3D video games such as American Mcgee's Alice and Clive Barkers Undying. It can be programmed to be both a mouse and a keyboard at the same time! The response rate is fantastic and the wireless freedom is outstanding! This pad is very durable and should last for years as long as you don't abuse it to badly.
